Pedro Soares de Souza
I · U.S. House, RI-1 · Tier 4/5
Tier 4/5, between “Critical / conditions aid” and “Critical on most positions”
His campaign platform, under the heading “Stop Funding Genocide,” reads “End military funding and weapons to Israel. Human rights over geopolitics and foreign profit. Demand ceasefires, diplomacy, and accountability,” and a second plank says “AIPAC must be dissolved. I will not take money from AIPAC, foreign-agent PACs, or lobbying groups that put another country’s interests ahead of the American people.” A Woonsocket restaurant worker turned small-business owner and data professional, he runs as an independent (campaigning as Pedro DeSouza) on single-payer health care, housing, the Second Amendment and “an end to forever wars.”
A 4/5. Ending military funding and weapons to Israel outright — no conditions and no carve-out for defensive systems — under a heading that names the genocide is the substance of the Tier 5 position, and he refuses AIPAC money. What holds it short of a clean 5 is that it rests on one platform plank from a first-time candidate, with no interview, debate or survey answer showing the stance held firmly; his campaign pages say nothing more about Israel. Nothing questions Israel’s legitimacy. Counter-case: a clean 5 if the pledge is repeated in his own words elsewhere.
