Tier 2, “Mainstream pro-Israel”
His 2024 campaign backed aid to Israel as an ally: in October 2023 he said Giménez’s inability to “pass a budget or provide aid to Israel and Ukraine” was “a show of political cowardice,” and a December 2023 release said Giménez should stay in Washington “until our allies Ukraine - and Israel - get the American support they need to defend their homeland”; nothing on Gaza or Palestinians was found. A retired Navy commander (1982–2008) who lost FL-28 to Rep. Carlos Giménez in 2024 and is the 2026 Democratic nominee again, he runs on health-care costs, anti-corruption, a South Dade VA hospital and the Everglades; his platform’s one line near the subject of Israel says “Putting America First means defending the Constitution and the rule of law, rejecting anti-American rhetoric, antisemitism, socialism and political extremism, and using military force only when lawful and necessary.” On October 26, 2026, breaking with his party’s Senate nominee, Angie Nixon, over her answer on Cuba, he posted on X: “Angie Nixon has never been to Gaza, yet she has had no problem calling what happened there a genocide and encouraging others to antagonize those supporting Israel’s right to exist,” and “I will not stand behind Angie Nixon or defend her remarks.”
A thin 2, on words from 2023. His statements on Israel all come from the first months of his 2024 campaign, and each backs aid in passing, paired with Ukraine. In October 2023 he called Giménez’s failure to pass a budget or aid for Israel and Ukraine “a show of political cowardice”; a November release urged funding “our commitments to our allies like Israel and Ukraine,” and a December release, mostly about Ukraine, said Giménez should stay in Washington “until our allies Ukraine - and Israel - get the American support they need to defend their homeland.” That is the mainstream Democratic case for the late-2023 aid package: no conditions and no word on Gaza or Palestinians, but no champion words or leadership either. Little since: his 2026 site mentions antisemitism only in a general list, a September 2026 WPLG interview never touched Israel, and he left iVoterGuide’s Israel questions unanswered in 2020, 2024 and 2026; his one 2026 word on Gaza, an October 26 post breaking with Angie Nixon, says she “has never been to Gaza, yet she has had no problem calling what happened there a genocide.” Counter-cases: 1/2, since he backed aid during the war without a word for Palestinian civilians, and his October 2026 post casts doubt on the genocide charge rather than showing any concern for Gaza; or unrated, since his other words are three years old.
