Tier 1, “Firmly pro-Israel”
As a Kentucky state senator he was primary sponsor of a 2019 resolution condemning antisemitism (introduced, not adopted) that cited “anti-Semitic comments” by Rep. Ilhan Omar and would have adjourned the Senate “in deep respect for and loyalty to our Jewish friends and to our most essential global ally, the State of Israel,” and of a 2021 resolution, adopted by voice vote, that “adopts the definition of anti-Semitism from the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance.” A physician, Matt Bevin’s 2019 running mate and later Tennessee health commissioner, he is the Trump-endorsed nominee for the open KY-6 seat; his campaign site says nothing about Israel, but at an October 2025 primary forum he defended AIPAC (“It’s American Jews and Americans who want to see better relationships between the United States and Israel, and so I do support that”), and on February 28, 2026, as the Iran war began, he wrote that “The United States is aligned with Israel, our strongest ally in the region”.
A Tier 1. As a Kentucky state senator he was the primary sponsor of two resolutions: one in 2019 that cited Ilhan Omar’s “anti-Semitic comments” and would have adjourned the Senate “in deep respect for and loyalty to our Jewish friends and to our most essential global ally, the State of Israel,” and one in 2021, adopted by voice vote, that “adopts the definition of anti-Semitism from the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance.” Authoring state measures that tie criticism of Israel to antisemitism is leadership on the issue, and nothing since points the other way: AIPAC and Trump endorse him in 2026, and no concern for Palestinian civilians is on record. Counter-case: 1/2, reading two symbolic state resolutions from 2019–2021 as too thin to count as leadership.
