Rick Edmonds

R · U.S. House, LA-6 · Tier 1/2

Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”

Position

No statement on Israel, Gaza or Palestine in his own words found. As a state representative he co-authored the House’s 2016 resolution condemning “any and all efforts to boycott, divest from, and sanction Israel” (HR 228, adopted 88–1) and voted for the 2019 law letting public bodies reject the low bid of a vendor that boycotts Israel (HB 245, Act 155; 96–0); he was also one of 34 listed authors of the Legislature’s 2021 resolution urging Congress to “take such actions as are necessary to support Israel” (HCR 96), and voted for it as the House adopted it 87-0; as a state senator he voted for SCR 21 (April 2024; Senate 26–0), which memorialized Congress to support Israel’s effort to “root out Hamas.” A Baton Rouge-area legislator (House 2016–2024, Senate since 2024), former pastor and former Louisiana Family Forum vice president, he runs as a “Proven Trump Conservative” in LA-6’s November 3 open primary.

Why this tier

A 1/2, on a thin record of statehouse acts. As a state representative he was one of 34 listed authors, under lead author Rep. Valarie Hodges, of the Legislature’s 2021 resolution urging Congress to “take such actions as are necessary to support Israel” (HCR 96), and voted for it as the House adopted it 87-0. In April 2024, during the genocide, he voted as a state senator for SCR 21 (26–0), which memorialized Congress to support Israel’s effort to “root out Hamas.” None of it is leadership: he was one of dozens of authors rather than the author, the resolutions were nonbinding, and each passed his chamber with no more than one dissenting vote. He has voiced no concern for Palestinian civilians, and his campaign site says nothing on Israel or foreign policy. Stewart Cathey, with the same two resolutions on his record, is a 1/2. Counter-case: unrated, since near-unanimous votes on measures with long author lists say little about one legislator.
