Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”
Republican nominee whose 2026 iVoterGuide answer calls Israel “a stabilizing force within the Middle East and critical for the spread of democracy within this region” (in 2024: “our strongest ally in the Middle East”); he marked “Disagree” on supporting BDS in 2022. Asked by the Mississippi Free Press in November 2024 whether U.S. support should have a red line, he said “we have an obligation to support our allies. They are our one true ally in the Middle East,” called any red line “really tough to say,” and — citing time he spent in Israel, Gaza and the Sinai — favored “a one-state (solution) with representation from both sides” over two states.
A 1/2, not a clean 1. Across three cycles the record is reliable, unconditioned support — Israel as the one true ally, no red line even when pressed on international law, opposition to BDS — with no expressed concern for Palestinian civilians and no leadership on the issue (no office, no Israel legislation or hardline brand). His one-state remark is the outlier: offered as a pragmatic end-state alongside unconditional support, it does not read as questioning Israel’s legitimacy, and it does not count toward the critical end on this record.
