Sarah Trone Garriott

D · U.S. House, IA-3 · not rated

Position

No statement on Israel, Gaza or Palestine in her own words found. As an Iowa state senator she voted for HF 2220 (March 2022), which wrote the IHRA working definition of antisemitism, including its contemporary examples, into Iowa law; it passed the Senate 48-0. She also voted for HF 2373 (February 2022), which extended Iowa’s law barring state investment in, and contracts with, companies that boycott Israel to their parent companies, subsidiaries and affiliates; it passed 40-5, with five Democrats opposed. In February 2026 she voted in the Senate Education Committee for SF 2336, which would apply Iowa’s IHRA definition to annual antisemitism reports and to bans on antisemitism in schools, community colleges and state universities; the committee approved it 14-0, and it never reached a floor vote. J Street PAC endorses her and lists hers as a priority race, and her campaign's foreign-policy messaging attacks Rep. Nunn's votes for the 2026 Iran war.

Why not rated

Not rated: her Israel-related acts are state-senate votes: for the IHRA definition (2022, unanimous), for extending Iowa’s law against companies that boycott Israel (2022, 40-5, with five Democrats opposed) and, in committee, for applying the IHRA definition in schools and colleges (2026). They would hold her short of the critical end, but on their own make no placement. Her Iran-war attacks on Nunn do not count as a stance on Israel. She did not co-sponsor either of the 2024 Senate resolutions affirming support for Israel (SR 101, SR 103; both were Republican-sponsored and never reached a vote). Unrated until there is a statement of her own on Gaza; the counter-case is a provisional 2, reading the IHRA and anti-boycott votes and the J Street priority endorsement together as a pro-Israel record.
