Tier 2/3, between “Mainstream pro-Israel” and “Pro-Israel, critical”

Position

Cosponsored Block the Bombs; 'I will not support... additional offensive weaponry'; supports Israel's existence. He has said Israeli actions killed civilians at an unacceptable rate and caused mass suffering by blocking aid. He signed letters urging the State Department to affirm U.S. opposition to the forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza (January 2024), urging President Biden to sanction Israeli ministers Smotrich and Ben-Gvir over incitement of settler violence (October 2024) and urging Secretary Rubio to demand a surge of infant formula into Gaza (August 2025); he joined most House Democrats on the September 2025 Schneider–Raskin letter opposing annexation of the West Bank, and in January 2026 signed the Welch–Khanna letter urging a stronger U.S. response to Israel’s moves toward annexation, including the E-1 settlement. But FEC shows recurring AIPAC and DMFI money since 2022 (~$51K), AIPAC’s running into June 2026, and he still supports Iron Dome and “targeted actions” against Hamas, voted the 2024 aid package (and in April 2024 signed the Gottheimer–Wilson letter urging Speaker Johnson to bring the Senate-passed supplemental, with its aid to Israel, to a vote), and does not use “genocide.” On October 6, 2026 he cosponsored H.Res.1618, the House resolution marking the third anniversary of October 7, which supports “Israel's right to self-defense and long-term security” alongside more humanitarian aid for Gazans and Hamas's disarmament. In June 2026 Magaziner signed a letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, led by Reps. Becca Balint and Joaquin Castro, on Israel’s operations in southern Lebanon, saying Israel’s “targeted, mass destruction of civilian homes and infrastructure does not constitute Israeli self-defense” and asking that, if U.S.-origin arms were confirmed in those operations, the administration “stop arms transfers being used in these operations until these violations cease”; the letter also affirmed that “Israel has a right to defend itself.”

Why this tier

A 2/3 straddle. He cosponsored Block the Bombs — an offensive-arms-conditioning act (he won’t back additional offensive weaponry for the Netanyahu government until aid is surged and the war ends) — but FEC shows recurring AIPAC and DMFI money (~$51K since 2022, including AIPAC earmarks as late as June 2026), with no public break. The Block the Bombs cosponsorship and his civilian-suffering criticism keep him off a clean 2; against them stands $35,693 from AIPAC’s PAC in 2024. He also voted Aye on the July 15, 2026 Massie amendment to strip Israel’s $3.3B in military financing (roll 243). He still supports Iron Dome and ‘targeted actions’ against Hamas, voted the 2024 aid package, and doesn’t use ‘genocide.’
