Steve Stern
D · New York State Assembly, District 10 · Tier 1/2
Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”
A2139-A (IHRA codification) cosponsor and the second signatory of the October 20, 2023 “New York Legislators Stand With Israel” letter. His own October 8, 2023 release affirms Israel’s “right to defend her land and her people.” Nothing on Palestinian civilian deaths, humanitarian access, a ceasefire or the genocide appears anywhere in his Assembly press index — the record runs in one direction only. He cosponsors Assemblyman Lavine’s anti-boycott bill, A4434 (2025–26), which would restrict state purchasing from, and the investment of public funds in, companies boycotting Israel. Certified uncontested for the Democratic designation in AD-10.
A 1/2 rather than a clean 1, on the Dinowitz pattern. He has more than a bare cosponsorship — a prominent letter signature and an October 2023 statement in his own words — but no authored legislation, no organising role, and no money-directing or leadership position. The one-directional record (no humanitarian language found at all) argues against moving him to 2.
