Steve Toth
R · U.S. House, TX-2 · Tier 1/2
Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”
Texas state representative from The Woodlands who unseated Rep. Dan Crenshaw in the March 2026 GOP primary (Trump endorsed him in July 2026), running on America First lines and attacking Crenshaw as, in the Texas Tribune’s summary, “overly focused on foreign aid.” His platform promises to “defend our allies like Israel, and make sure every dollar spent abroad serves the interests of the American people”; in the Texas House he was one of four joint authors of HR 16 (adopted April 2019), “Affirming the historical connection of the Jewish people to Jerusalem and condemning efforts of UNESCO,” and voted Yea on HB 793 (Record 304, April 11, 2019), “relating to certain government contracts with companies that boycott Israel.” Asked in iVoterGuide’s 2026 general-election questionnaire whether the U.S. relationship with Israel is important, Toth answered: “Israel is the only Democratically elected ally of the US in the Middle East. Israel is an island in a sea of Islamic Fundamentalists who openly and seeks the destruction of America. Islamic Fundamentalists are divided by Arab-Sunnis & Persian-Shias. Shias are eagerly seeking to become a nuclear power. Sunnis are more comfortable with Isreal as a nuclear power than their Shia neighbors. Why? Because they know the Shias will use Nuclear weapons and start a world war.” In an October 12, 2026 Washington Reporter interview he said Tucker Carlson “hates Jewish people. He hates the Jewish state,” and, of Carlson’s view of the war, “Tucker thinks that the Jewish people are, in some ways, doing something horrific to the people of Gaza. I’m sorry, I’m just not there.”
A 1/2, not a clean 1. In the Texas House he was one of four joint authors of HR 16 (adopted April 2019), “Affirming the historical connection of the Jewish people to Jerusalem and condemning efforts of UNESCO,” a symbolic resolution filed by its primary author, Phil King; Toth signed on in March 2019. He also voted Yea on HB 793, the 2019 bill that narrowed, and kept in force, Texas’s ban on state contracts with companies that boycott Israel. Both were measures others led. Nor is there concern for Palestinian civilians in the record: his 2026 platform promises to “defend our allies like Israel,” and in an October 2026 interview he waved off the idea that something horrific is being done to the people of Gaza: “I’m sorry, I’m just not there.” His “every dollar spent abroad” caveat is a blanket America First line, and his attacks on Crenshaw’s foreign-aid record did not, in the coverage found, extend to Israel. Counter-case: 1, since he put his own name to HR 16, and his 2026 words hold the same line.
