Steven St John

I · U.S. House, NV-1 · Tier 1/2

Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”

Position

Asked by iVoterGuide in 2026, he wrote that “Israel is an important U.S. ally,” that “We should support Israel’s right to exist and defend its people while also supporting diplomacy, protection of innocent civilians, and lasting peace,” and that “Supporting Israel does not require agreeing with every decision made by its government.” A Las Vegas hospital chaplain running without a party in NV-1, he campaigns on protecting health care, Medicare and Social Security, lowering living costs and affordable housing.

Why this tier

A 1/2, on a thin record: one questionnaire answer. He backs Israel as “an important U.S. ally” and its “right to exist and defend its people.” His concern for civilians comes in the same sentence as that right and in general terms (“diplomacy, protection of innocent civilians, and lasting peace”) that say nothing about Gaza or the war’s toll and conduct. His line that “Supporting Israel does not require agreeing with every decision made by its government” distances him from the government without naming a policy he opposes. There is no leadership on the issue: he holds no office and has written no Israel legislation. Counter-case: a flat 2, crediting the call to protect innocent civilians.
