Tier 3/4, between “Pro-Israel, critical” and “Critical / conditions aid”

Position

A founding member of the Green Party of New Jersey and its 2013 nominee for governor, running on the Green line in NJ-3 on electoral reform, a Green New Deal and halving the military budget. In an October 2026 post on his Medium blog, tagged “israel,” he wrote that “They had kept their settler-colonial intentions clandestine for the first fifty years of their project” and that “The world has now lost all sympathy for such”; WHYY's 2026 voter guide reports he said it would take international pressure to move Israel toward a resolution giving Palestinians a viable state or equality in a single bi-national state.

Why this tier

A 3/4, on a thin record of short writings. In an October 6, 2026 post on his Medium blog, tagged “israel,” he wrote of Israel’s founders that “They had kept their settler-colonial intentions clandestine for the first fifty years of their project,” grew “increasingly brazen about it” after the Holocaust and “finally just went too far,” adding, “It’s a post-colonial era. The world has now lost all sympathy for such.” Casting Israel’s founding project as settler-colonialism goes to Zionism itself, though he does not name it. An October 17, 2026 post, tagged “palestine-and-israel” and titled “in agreement,” reproduces a summary of the historian Shlomo Sand’s views with nothing added: that Israel’s founding “destroyed this society,” opposition to the right of return and to a single state, and support for a “two state solution on the borders of 1967, taking out most of the settlers.” He has stated no position on weapons or military aid to Israel. In October 2024, introducing the Green Party of New Jersey’s congressional slate, himself included, he wrote that all were “strong proponents of an immediate ceasefire in the Middle East, the immediate end to the genocide/apartheid of the Palestinian people and the end of the illegal occupation of Palestine,” and a December 2025 book review of his refers to “the Israeli system of apartheid.” WHYY’s 2026 voter guide reports only that he said international pressure would be needed to move Israel toward a viable Palestinian state or equality in a single bi-national state. Counter-case: a 3, reading the post as commentary on history rather than a stated position.
