Tom Barrett

R · U.S. House, MI-7 · Tier 1/2

Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”

Position

A 22-year Army veteran who flipped MI-7 red in 2024; RJC-backed for a third cycle. His own initiatives on Israel are communal rather than policy: he urged Michigan State to adopt the IHRA antisemitism definition and helped introduce the Jewish American Security Act (protecting synagogues, schools, and community centers). In office he voted for ICC sanctions (January 2025) and the September 2026 college anti-boycott bill, against the 2025 Greene and 2026 Massie cuts to Israel’s military aid, and cosponsored the U.S.-Israel Defense Partnership Act (March 2025). No authored Israel-policy legislation, arms/aid leadership, or maximalist brand.

Why this tier

A 1/2, not a clean 1. He has a firm pro-Israel record — RJC-backed for a third cycle, Trump-aligned — but his affirmative record on Israel is communal/antisemitism, not Israel policy: the IHRA push at Michigan State and the Jewish American Security Act are worship-safety and hate-crime measures — reliable support, not Israel-policy leadership. With no authored Israel-policy legislation, no arms/aid leadership, no maximalist brand, and no expressed concern for Palestinian civilians, that communal record sits at 1/2 — the mirror of Hunt and Hinson, and short of the authored-legislation and brand champions at a clean 1, such as Fine.
