Tier 3, “Pro-Israel, critical”

Position

At the Cherokee County debate of his GA-07 series on September 9, 2026, which McCormick did not attend, he was asked whether Israel is committing genocide and whether he would take AIPAC money. He said: “I have not accepted any money from AIPAC, and I’ve committed not to take any money from AIPAC.” He said “I see war crimes that are committed by the Israeli army,” left the genocide question to the international courts (“I wish I could give you a direct answer”), and said: “Whatever it is, the United States needs to tell Israel it needs to stop. Whatever it is, we cannot continue these atrocities in Gaza, in the West Bank.” Turning to whether the U.S. should keep aiding Israel, he said: “If we are a true ally of Israel, it is our duty to tell them that this action needs to stop.” At the Hall County debate on September 18, asked about a failed bill to end aid to Israel, he warned of rising antisemitism and said: “My problem with the funding is it’s not that it’s going to Israel necessarily. That is a separate issue. Right now, my true belief is that the United States can’t afford to help anybody else like this,” citing the national debt. A Naval Academy graduate who flew Navy combat missions and later became an attorney, he is challenging Rich McCormick; his national-security plank backs NATO, Ukraine and "tough diplomacy backed by credible force" to keep Iran from nuclear weapons.

Why this tier

A 3, on a thin record: answers at two September 2026 debates. At the Cherokee County debate he said “I see war crimes that are committed by the Israeli army,” left the genocide question to the international courts, and said: “Whatever it is, we cannot continue these atrocities in Gaza, in the West Bank.” On whether to keep aiding Israel, he said: “If we are a true ally of Israel, it is our duty to tell them that this action needs to stop.” He refuses AIPAC money. That is criticism of Israel’s conduct in his own voice, war crimes included, but his remedy is telling Israel to stop, with no step on aid or weapons. His site and 2026 Ballotpedia survey never mention Israel or Gaza. Counter-case: 3/4, since at the Hall County debate, asked about a failed bill to end aid to Israel, he objected to the aid on cost (“the United States can’t afford to help anybody else like this”); but he said his problem was “not that it’s going to Israel necessarily” and gave no vote.
