Tier 4, “Critical / conditions aid”
In his March 2026 Mississippi Free Press questionnaire he wrote that “the most recent war in Gaza has amounted to a genocide” and that “the U.S. should immediately discontinue sending American taxpayer dollars to Israel,” with any future support “contingent on verifiable compliance with international law, an immediate and sustained ceasefire, and a serious, credible push toward a two-state solution that guarantees Palestinian self-determination and Israeli security.” As the 2024 Democratic nominee his line was conditioning within support — a ceasefire, “American taxpayer dollars should never be unconditional—ever,” and “Israel has the right to defend itself” — and in February 2025 he condemned Trump’s plan to seize Gaza and expel its people as a human-rights violation. In a March 13, 2026 interview (Mississippi Free Press, published Oct 14, 2026) he said the U.S. should not keep sending Israel about $3 billion a year. In June 2026 he called himself “the only candidate in this race that is not affiliated with pro-Israel lobbies like J Street and especially AIPAC.” In an October 12, 2026 WDAM interview he said the country’s leaders “have an unhealthy relationship with the government of the country of Israel,” and on October 15 he posted the line again — “We have an unhealthy relationship with the government of the country of Israel.” — adding, “I said that during my recent interview with WDAM, and I stand by it.”
A 4, on a thin record: one questionnaire answer and two interviews. In his March 2026 Mississippi Free Press questionnaire he wrote that “the most recent war in Gaza has amounted to a genocide” and that “the U.S. should immediately discontinue sending American taxpayer dollars to Israel,” naming the genocide in his own voice and cutting off U.S. money. But the same answer wraps the cutoff in a two-state outcome: any future support would depend on “verifiable compliance with international law,” a ceasefire and a two-state solution that guarantees “Palestinian self-determination and Israeli security.” And it follows a 2024 campaign, as the Democratic nominee, in which he said “Israel has the right to defend itself” and asked only for conditions (“American taxpayer dollars should never be unconditional—ever”). He left iVoterGuide’s 2026 question on Israel unanswered. Counter-cases: 4/5, taking the end to all U.S. money, with the genocide named, at its word; 3/4, since the cutoff rests on one written answer and one interview.
