Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”

Position

California Republican who took office in June 2024 and has voted for every tracked Israel measure since: both ICC-sanctions bills (Jun 2024, Jan 2025), the June 2024 amendment barring use of Gaza Health Ministry casualty figures, the September 2026 college anti-boycott bill and the July 2026 State Department funding bill, and against the 2025 Greene and 2026 Massie cuts. As a candidate in January 2024 he said “I clearly support Israel’s right to defend itself” and “We need to do everything we can” to ensure “the terrorists are rooted out and destroyed”; in office his statements on the region are brief and framed around hostages and Iran: on the October 2025 hostage release he thanked President Trump and mourned “the hostages who were brutally murdered,” with no mention of Gaza, and on the June 2025 strikes he said “Iran can NEVER be allowed to have a nuclear weapon.”

Why this tier

A 1/2. A short but zero-daylight record — every Israel vote since he arrived in mid-2024 — with no leadership on the issue: none of his 20 sponsored bills concerns Israel, and he leads no Israel caucus. No statement of concern for Gaza's civilians during the genocide was found.
