Wesley Hunt
R · U.S. House, TX-38 · Tier 1/2
Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”
Sitting TX-38 member through January 2027, but not a 2026 candidate: he gave up the House seat to run for Senate and finished third in the March 3, 2026 Republican primary. AIPAC-endorsed (the first non-incumbent AIPAC-PAC endorsee in 2022) and endorsed by AIPAC again in that Senate primary; a West Point grad and Apache pilot who voted the “Standing with Israel” resolutions and co-chairs the Black-Jewish Relations Caucus. His campaign site’s Israel plank, headed “Defending Israel,” calls Israel America’s one true ally in the Middle East and says “America must defend Israel”; the “strongest ally and oldest friend” line is from his 2022 campaign website. He has authored no Israel-policy legislation, but he cosponsored H.R.8369 — the 2024 bill written to force delivery of the offensive-arms shipment Biden had paused — and voted for it. On Sep 14, 2026 President Trump announced Hunt’s nomination as US ambassador to Saudi Arabia. In January 2024 he signed the Smith–Manning letter, whose signers “thoroughly reject” South Africa’s “charge of genocide” against Israel.
A 1/2, not a clean 1. He has a firm pro-Israel record — AIPAC-endorsed, “stand with Israel” as a stated priority, “Standing with Israel” resolution votes — but his affirmative record is endorsement, ally rhetoric, and a communal relations caucus, not Israel policy. Co-chairing the Black-Jewish Relations Caucus is a communal act, not leadership on Israel policy. With no authored Israel-policy legislation, no arms/aid leadership, no maximalist brand, and no expressed concern for Palestinian civilians, that record sits at 1/2 — the mirror of Barrett and Hinson, and short of the authored-legislation and brand champions at a clean 1, such as Cotton.
