William Timmons

R · U.S. House, SC-4 · Tier 1/2

Tier 1/2, between “Firmly pro-Israel” and “Mainstream pro-Israel”

Position

South Carolina Republican and, since 2025, chairman of the Oversight Committee’s Military and Foreign Affairs Subcommittee. His main Israel statement on his House site came with his April 2024 votes for the Israel and Indo-Pacific packages: President Biden “has catered to the anti-Semitic, woke liberals who believe Israel, our greatest ally in the Middle East, does not have the right to exist,” and his own votes would “support our allies, oppose the dangerous terrorist group Hamas,” while he opposed “nearly $61 billion for Ukraine.” Opening his subcommittee’s first hearing (February 2025), he called the October 7 attack “a direct consequence of failing to maintain strong deterrence in the Middle East.” He was an original cosponsor of the November 2023 Israel-only supplemental and voted for the 2023–24 aid supplementals, H.Res.894, the Antisemitism Awareness Act, H.R.8369 against the 2024 arms pause, ICC sanctions (2024 and 2025) and the September 2026 anti-boycott bill, and against the 2025 Greene and 2026 Massie cuts. Asked in iVoterGuide’s 2026 general-election questionnaire whether the U.S. relationship with Israel is important, Timmons answered: “Israel is our greatest ally in the Middle East. Our partnership is rooted not just in strategic interests, but in our shared values of democracy, freedom, and justice. We will not waver in our commitment to defend our ally from the threats of radical America-hating terrorists, Iran, and their proxies.”

Why this tier

A 1/2, not a clean 1. The voting record is zero-daylight and his April 2024 statement defends Israel’s right to exist against critics he calls anti-Semitic, with no statement of concern for Palestinian civilians, which rules out a flat 2. There is no leadership on the issue: no authored Israel legislation, no Israel-specific work from his subcommittee chairmanship on his House site, and no Israel plank on his campaign site. The record is thin, so the call rests mainly on the votes; a statement surfacing either way could change it.
